WASHINGTON—Along with numerous hospitality executives, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) this week unveiled the 5-Star Promise, a pledge to provide hotel employees across the U.S. with employee safety devices (ESDs) and commit to enhanced policies, trainings and resources that together are aimed at enhancing hotel safety, including preventing and responding to sexual harassment and assault.

AAHOA President/CEO Chip Rogers issued the following statement in response to proposed safety measures for hotel employees outlined by the American Hotel and Lodging Association and several major brands at a recent press conference:

“Providing employees with extra resources to enhance their security in the workplace is an important part of a healthy and productive professional environment. America’s hoteliers welcome opportunities to provide safety protocols and training in their hotels and are encouraged by the 5-Star Promise and industry’s commitment to protecting workers. AAHOA and its members look forward to working with the brands to foster greater cooperation and innovation when it comes to how employee safety devices (ESDs) are deployed at franchised properties. ESDs can be a vital tool to prevent potentially dangerous situations. With the nation’s hotel industry already taking the lead in promoting guest and employee safety when it comes to issues such as preventing human trafficking, the principles outlined in the 5-Star Promise will build on those efforts as our industry continues to create a safe and secure work environment for employees.”
