ATLANTA, Ga., Dec. 6 – AAHOA President and CEO Cecil Staton issued the following statement in response to new employment figures released by the Department of Labor showing the U.S. economy added 266,000 jobs in November and the unemployment rate dropped to 3.5%, matching September’s rate as the lowest since 1969:
“America’s hoteliers continue to do their part to fuel our nation’s economic expansion. Over the past four months, the hospitality and leisure industry added more than 219,000 jobs, including about 17 percent of all jobs created in November. This Thanksgiving, we saw the highest number of travelers since 2005. With the holidays right around the corner, hotel owners are optimistic about the prospects for continued economic growth and job creation through the new year.”
