CLEMMONS, N.C., June 6, 2017 – Rep. Virginia Foxx took part in a roundtable discussion with small business owners at a Clemmons hotel on Thursday, June 1. The event was organized by the Coalition to Save Local Business in partnership with the Asian American Hotel Owners Association.

Foxx (R, N.C.) sat down with over a dozen hotel owners in the area to discuss challenges facing small business owners, including onerous government regulations and the joint employer standard.

Maria Newsome is the General Manager of the Quality Inn Clemmons and attended the event with Foxx.

“I owe much of my success to the American franchise model,” said Newsome. “It gives me the flexibility to make the day-to-day decisions that impact my business and employees. However, with the new proposed joint employer standard, the entire franchise model as we know it is in jeopardy. Chairwoman Foxx understands the importance that franchisees play in our local economy, and it is refreshing to know that we have her to represent our community in Congress.”

Chip Rogers, the president and CEO of AAHOA, thanked Foxx for spending time with the hotel owners.

“We thank Chairwoman Foxx for taking the time to meet with our members and learn firsthand the challenges that hoteliers face,” said Rogers. “Time and again, she advocates for the small business community in North Carolina when it matters most.”

Foxx is the chairwoman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce in addition to serving on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Prior to serving in Congress, she was a successful teacher, administrator and small business owner.

AAHOA is the largest hotel owners association in the world. The more than 16,000 AAHOA members own almost one in every two hotels in the United States. With billions of dollars in property assets and hundreds of thousands of employees, AAHOA members are core economic contributors in virtually every community in the United States. As an association, AAHOA is a proud defender of free enterprise and the foremost current-day example of realizing the American Dream.
