WASHINGTON, D.C., Mar. 12 – Over 180 of the nation’s hoteliers kicked off AAHOA’s 2019
Spring National Advocacy Conference at the Westin Washington D.C. City Center. The two-day
conference allowed hoteliers to raise awareness of the industry and the issues affecting it with
lawmakers, inform the legislative process, and showcase the economic impact their businesses
have on communities across the United States.
“With over one hundred new office holders in Congress, this presents a great opportunity for
hoteliers to give lawmakers a picture of where the hospitality industry stands and how we can
work together to keep this vital sector of the American economy growing. We want our
congressional leaders to know that they have a partner in America’s hoteliers when it comes to
issues such as job creation, small business development, and the fight against human
trafficking,” said AAHOA Chairman Hitesh (HP) Patel.
On Monday, Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH) gave a legislative briefing to hoteliers, and members of
the firm Gray Robinson and Blue Point DC participated in a panel discussion on steps for a
successful and effective meeting. AAHOA members held a reception later in the evening for
lawmakers and their staffs. On Tuesday, hoteliers met with their elected officials and staff.
“Our lawmakers understand that constituent input is key to creating sound public policy. This
week, our members will be talking with them about how to make the tax cuts work for even
more small business owners and workers, clarifying trademark licensing laws for franchised
businesses, and cementing funding for Brand USA to attract more international visitors to our
shores. Our government works best when we all work together, and America’s hoteliers are
proud to share their perspectives on key policies affecting our industry and our communities,”
said AAHOA Interim President and CEO Rachel Humphrey.
